BEIJING DRUM TOWER

One of the last days of our visit in Beijing we visited together with our wonderful guide Mary Linn (Pippi) the Beijing Drum Tower. This tower was situated just around the corner of the hutong area where our B&B was. Just opposite the Drum Tower you will find the Bell Tower, but we never made it there!

The construction of this tower began during the 9th year of the Emperor Zhiyuan of the Yuan Dinasty (1272 AD). The Drum Tower is 46,7 meters high and you can feel it by climbing up to it. My godness....!!! Sweat, sweat!!

Anyway this two towers where used to announce the time for the population of the city during the Yuan, Ming and Qind dinasties.

Every day at certain time you will see drumplayers drumming on the huge drum inside of the tower. It's really something special. Beside of that you have a 360 degree view over Beijing.
